Benvenute e benvenuti al primo numero di #LongForm articles su Pequod Rivista.

Ogni anno, pubblicheremo alcuni numeri di approfondimento sui temi caldi dei nostri giorni. Siamo partiti dagli avvenimenti importanti degli anni precedenti per indagare il futuro. Così è nato il primo numero: una serie di riflessioni orientate a esplorare quello che cambierà nei prossimi dieci anni.

Il 2020 è una data che ci pone di fronte a molti cambiamenti. Una pandemia globale, i problemi ambientali, l’omicidio di George Floyd, le politiche sociali delle democrazie, una cultura colonialista e razzista persistente, l’affermarsi del transfemminismo e i sostanziali cambiamenti nelle relazioni interpersonali. Queste sono solo alcune delle tematiche sulle quali vorremmo soffermarci con voi lettori, in questo numero così come nelle prossime pubblicazioni.

Sin dall’autunno scorso, abbiamo lavorato per diventare una rivista attenta e riflessiva rispetto alle realtà che ci circondano. Abbiamo capito che, per fare questo, dovevamo anzitutto partire dal nostro modo di raccontare le notizie, adattando i nostri linguaggi alle realtà raccontate. Così è nato il Manifesto in Divenire, interamente basato sulla pratica di collaborazione.

“In Divenire” è ciò che ha sempre caratterizzato le pubblicazioni di questa rivista, capace di mutarsi per mantenersi fedele al principio di un’informazione come pratica di cambiamento. Ma non possiamo farlo da soli. Abbiamo bisogno di voi lettori per continuare: leggete, pensate e confrontatevi con noi e tra di voi.

Pequod Rivista vuole essere una pubblicazione non solo indipendente, ma attivista e militante. Scriviamo per capire e pubblichiamo per dialogare.

Siamo sparsi tra Italia e Regno Unito. Non abbiamo una sede fissa. Ci muoviamo a seconda dell’esigenza. Siamo in mezzo a voi. Parlateci, scriveteci. Aiutateci a creare una piattaforma di voci in dialogo.

The World in Ten Years

In this first issue we present you with Pequod Rivista’s #LongForm articles for the first time.

Every year we will publish a number of issues that take an in-depth look at the important themes of the day. We started by looking at the key events of the recent years in order to investigate what the future might hold. Our first issue came about as a series of reflections aimed at exploring the changes we will see in the next ten years.

The beginning of a new decade invites us to reflect on the events of the last few years and on the ways in which these have affected our lives. We have recently faced a global pandemic, environmental disasters, the murder of George Floyd, changes to the social policies of democratic governments, manifestations of deeply embedded colonialist and racist attitudes, the affirmation of LGBTQ+ rights and important shifts in interpersonal relationships. These are only some of the themes that we will focus on in this and future issues, and we will be asking you to engage in these reflections with us.

Since last autumn, we’ve been working on becoming more attentive to the world around us as a magazine. In order to achieve this, we need to start from from how we tell stories, and to adapt our ways of working and writing to the realities we seek to convey. Our Manifesto in Becoming was born as a statement to our intention of working transparently and collaboratively.

Our magazine has always been “in becoming”. Throughout the years Pequod has changed many times in order to remain faithful to its core belief that news reporting should be a tool for social change. But we can’t do this on our own. We need our readers to be part of this process: to read, think and exchange views and opinions among each other and with us.

Pequod Rivista doesn’t only aim to be an independent magazine, but also one that engages in social action. We write to understand, and we publish to create a space for conversations to happen.

We live in Italy and the United Kindom. We don’t have a permanent base. We move as needed, and are where you are. Talk to us, write to us. Help us create a platform where we can tackle the important conversations of our times.
